Bioprinting with 3D Printer

3D printing technology is now being used to create a three-dimensional kidney structure.

3D Printing and its uses  have become more (commonplace/widespread), It has spread beyond the manufacturing industry.

Projects have already used 3D technology to print food, organs, and even whole houses

The team behind the bioprinting project

The aim of the experiment was to understand clearly how the organ functions and identify potential problems. The study, conducted by a team from Northwestern University, Illinois, created a detailed 3D print of a human kidney using a combination of CT and MRI scans.

Dr. Anthony Atala led the team from Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The team was able to print a functioning kidney using the patient’s cells.

The team says that their study confirms that 3D printing can now be an effective tool for bio-printing complex organs.

“This technology may provide us with a window into the inner workings of the kidney and allow us to test new therapies in a near-real-time setting,” said lead author Dr. Adam de Los Santos. The research was published in the journal Scientific Reports.

Future potential of 3D Printing in the medical field

The use of 3D printing technology to create accurate models of organs is an exciting development that could have several potential applications.

For example, it could help doctors plan and carry out surgery or test the effectiveness of new medical treatments.

The world of (dentistry/dental science) has also found real-life, cost-reducing solutions through 3D Printing techniques.

It could also teach medical students about the anatomy and function of various organs.

3D printing technology is still in its early stages, but it can possibly revolutionize medicine.
